About the work:
“Scream” is a sculpture depicting a large, expressive hand in realistic representation, made of dark, shiny material and mounted on a wooden base. The fingers are spread apart, as if in a gesture of tension, frozen in a dynamic, almost dramatic moment. The monumental form of the hand, isolated from the rest of the body, takes on a universal character – it is not only a part of the human body, but a sign of emotions that are difficult to express in words.
Creative process:
The process of creating “Scream” began with a study of hand gestures – searching for an arrangement that would convey the intensity of emotion in the simplest form. The first clay models allowed capturing the muscle tension and drama of the spread fingers. Then a metal cast was made, which thanks to the dark, shiny surface gave the work rawness and gravity. The use of a wooden base introduced contrast and balance – the natural warmth of wood juxtaposed with the coldness of metal emphasizes the drama of the composition.
Inspirations:
The inspiration for creating “Scream” came from strong emotions – protest, anger, calling for attention. The sculpture refers to universal hand gestures that have served as carriers of meaning in culture and art for centuries. The title also brings to mind Munch’s expressionist work, where the scream becomes a symbol of existential fear. In this case, the artistic gesture of the hand becomes a visual equivalent of emotional tension – a quiet, yet resounding “scream” enchanted in material.
